New York City to offer free SAT exams

New York City announced it will begin offering the SAT free to all public school students in their junior year as a way to encourage more students to apply to college, according to The New York Times.

By removing the barriers to entry—like the pricey fee to take the SAT exam—education officials hope students who might not otherwise take the test will choose to do so.

The test will be administered during the school day, rather than on a Saturday. This change will take effect in spring 2016.
