New retirees reception

The Office of the President, the Office of the Provost and the UGA Retirees Association will host a reception April 24 for UGA faculty, staff and administrators who have retired or who are slated to retire during the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

The new retirees will be honored at the invitation-only event and will receive certificates thanking them for their service to the university.

The invited keynote speaker for the event is Katy Crapo, executive director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UGA. OLLI is a dues-based organization open to Athens-area residents older than 50. It offers members access to courses, social events, travel opportunities and other activities.

UGARA includes all UGA retirees-faculty, staff and administrators-who become members when they officially retire from the university. UGARA is governed by a council that consists of elected members who serve three-year terms.

The council members for 2013-2014 are Betty Jean Craige, president; Brahm Verma, vice chair; Vicky Smith, secretary; Sharron Thompson, treasurer; Sharron Hannon, communication chair; Tom Lauth, benefits chair; Kathy Hoard, reception chair; Ed Kanemasu, Doris Kadish and Novene Landers.

Verma will succeed Craige as president of the council for 2014-2015.
