Group aims to aid low-income students

A group of nonprofit organizations led by Bloomberg Philanthropies announced last month a new effort to help low-income high school students enter and excel in college.

According to The New York Times, the effort will focus on hiring 130 full-time college counselors, who will advise students on admissions and financial aid issues. Four thousand college students also will be enlisted as part-time advisers. The advisers will use video chat, email, telephone and text to provide guidance to the high school students.
